AnyScreen Drop: the easiest way to get files onto your phone

Getting a file from a computer onto a phone has always meant a detour: a cable, a cloud folder, an email to yourself, or a wireless transfer that finds the other device some of the time.

AnyScreen Drop has no detour. When your PXS desktop is open in a computer’s browser, you drag the file onto it, and it’s on your phone.

How it works

1. Start AnyScreen in PXS with Control from that screen switched on, and open the desktop in the computer’s browser, the usual way.
2. Drag files from the computer onto the desktop in the browser. PXS shows them under the pointer, and whatever will take them lights up: the desktop, a folder on it, or a Files window.
3. Let go. The files land right where you dropped them, and the browser shows how far a big one has come.

Drop them on a window that doesn’t take files, a web page for example, and they go to Downloads. Up to 4 GB fits in one drop. Folders don’t go yet, so zip one first.

Paste works too

Copy some text on the computer, then press ⌘V (Ctrl+V on Windows) in the browser. It lands in the text field you’re writing in on the PXS desktop, or in the web page in front. Your phone’s own clipboard is left alone.

Straight to your phone

The files go directly from the computer to your phone, over the connection AnyScreen already has. They never pass through our servers: bytenine.com only introduces the two devices to each other. Nothing gets installed on the computer, and you don’t need an account, so a laptop you’re only borrowing works as well as your own.

Good to know

• AnyScreen Drop uses Control from that screen, the same switch that lets the computer’s mouse and keyboard drive PXS. Anyone with the pairing code can then control your desktop and send it files, so leave the switch off on a computer you don’t trust.
• AnyScreen Drop arrives with PXS 1.1, for iPhone and iPad.
