New in PXS Desktop 1.1

Calculator: an LCD, a paper tape, and sums in plain words

The Calculator in PXS 1.1 works like the one that used to sit on your desk, with a seven-segment display, memory keys and a tape that prints as you go. It also takes a question in plain words.

  • iPhone & iPad

Some tools were right the first time. The Calculator in PXS 1.1 is a desk calculator: a seven-segment LCD with its unlit segments faintly showing, a solar strip, memory keys, and a paper tape.

The tape

Every number prints on the tape as you go, and then the total. You can check a long sum instead of typing it again, and copy the whole tape when you are done.

It counts the way you expect

  • 0.1 + 0.2 is 0.3, not 0.30000000000000004.
  • × and ÷ go before + and −.
  • % reads its context: 200 + 10 % is 220.
  • = again repeats the last step. C clears what you are typing, AC the whole calculation.
  • On a keyboard: the digits, the operators and the number pad, Return for =, Esc to clear, ⌘C to copy the display and ⌘V to paste a number.

Ask

Click the ✦ button and write the sum as a question: “15 % tip on 340”. The model on your phone only turns the words into an expression, and PXS does the arithmetic itself. The tape prints your question and the expression above the answer, so a wrong reading is there to see. If what you wrote isn’t a calculation, the tape says so.

Good to know

  • Ask uses Apple’s on-device model, so it needs Apple Intelligence turned on (iOS 26 or later). The calculator itself needs nothing.
  • Calculator arrives with PXS 1.1, for iPhone and iPad.
